39. Señor, en este mundo visitaste

1.
Señor, en este mundo visitaste
Al hombre en el pecado amancillado;
Del cielo las verdades le anunciaste
Que solo Tú pudiste haberle dado;
Mas viendo tanto dolo,
Al monte para orar subiste soló.
2.
Tú solo de la voluntad sagrada
Pudiste proseguir la senda estrecha;
Armado con tu penetrante espada,
Tú solo hiciste frente ante la brecha;
Del huerto solitario
Subiste hasta la cumbre del Calvario.
3.
La amarga copa del acerbo juicio
Tú solo la bebiste en tu agonía,
Tú solo te ofreciste al sacrificio
Que Dios acepta y el pecado expía;
Tú solo fuiste fuerte,
Venciendo al enemigo con tu muerte.
4.
Tu obra, obra única y estable,
Tú solo la cumpliste con constancia,
Mas siendo la obra sola saludable,
Con muchos gozarás de la ganancia;
Los hombres rescatados
Serán los que tendrás siempre asociado.
1.
O Lord, into this world You once did come;
You came to visit mankind, so stained with sin;
Of heaven the truths to him You did announce
Which only You could to him give;
But seeing so much pain,
To pray alone there, the mount You did ascend.
2.
You alone, to do all of God’s holy will
Could still continue on the path so narrow;
You were armed with Your sword so penetrating,
You alone could confront and stand in the gap;
You from the lonely garden
Did climb up to the highest height of Calvary.
3.
O that bitter cup of the harshest judgment
All alone You did drink during Your death throes,
And alone offered Yourself as sacrifice
Which God accepted and all sin put away;
You alone were the strong One,
Who alone in death the enemy conquered.
4.
Your blest work, that lasting work that stands alone.
You only could complete it once for all men,
The work You did alone gives life eternal,
But with many You shalt celebrate the gains.
Your saints whom You hast redeemed
Are those who will be ever Your companions.
