Cristo de Dios, que de tan grande altura
Bajaste y, para al hombre rescatar,
Pasaste por la prueba amarga y dura,
Que por amor sufriste en su lugar.

La horrenda cruz, Jesús, por nos sufriste,
Desamparado por tu Dios allí:
La muerte y sus terrores Tú venciste,
Al recibir su golpe sobre Ti.

Con grande amor ¡oh Cristo! te entregaste,
En cruz colgado, de Dios maldición;
Tu propia sangre, el precio que donaste,
Fue nuestra paz y eterna salvación.

¡Tierno Jesús!, de Dios el Muy amado,
Del Padre el don, supremo don de amor;
A Ti Señor, el Hijo consumado,
Te adora el alma con santo fervor.

Came down to rescue man;
Thou didst pass through the bitter and hard trial,
Which for love Thou didst suffer in his place.

The horror of the cross, Jesus, Thou didst suffer for us,
Forsaken there by Thy God:
Death and its terrors Thou didst defeat,
When Thou didst receive His blow upon Thyself.

With such great love, O Christ, Thou gavest Thyself,
Hung on the cross, of God the accursed;
Thine own blood, the price Thou didst pay,
Became our peace and eternal salvation.
4.
O dearest Jesus! The greatly Beloved of God,
Gift of the Father, the supreme gift of love;
To Thee, O Lord, the perfect Son,
The soul adores Thee with holy fervour.
